I love the quiet magic of early morning in the garden—dew on the petals, sunlight just beginning to touch each bloom. In those moments, flowers seem to share more than beauty; they radiate a living energy, a whisper of their spirit. When this essence is gathered in water and sunlight, it becomes a medicine of harmony, carrying the flower’s wisdom into our lives.
Flower essences are a form of plant medicine that work on an energetic level to support healing. Unlike herbal remedies—such as teas, tinctures, or infused oils—that use the physical parts of the plant to support the body, flower essences are made from the energy of the blossom itself—the peak of the plant’s life force.
In creating a flower essence, the energy, or vibrational pattern, of a flower is infused into water through a process called solarization. Fresh blossoms are placed in spring water and exposed to direct sunlight, allowing the sun's energy to draw out the flower's unique vibrational essence and transfer it into the water.
The infused water is then filtered and preserved with vodka or brandy, creating a Mother Essence of concentrated potency, from which many usage or Stock bottles can be made, allowing years of future remedies to be made from one batch.
The result is a medicine carrying a plant’s unique energetic imprint, that works with us on the emotional, mental, and spiritual levels by infusing our awareness with harmonizing energy. Yet, because our thoughts and emotions so strongly influence physical health, flower essences can also have a profound effect on the body as well.
Flower essences are subtle, yet powerful remedies that help the human body, mind, and spirit align with the energetic properties of a particular flower. Mother Nature’s blooms bring gentle support for greater ease and balance in our lives, offering healing gifts such as creative inspiration, relief from anxiety, comfort in grief, and the courage to move forward—just to name a few.
Flower essences can be taken as drops on the tongue, mixed into a beverage, or applied to pulse points. Since they are preserved with vodka or brandy, those sensitive to alcohol may find topical use a more comfortable option.
Since there is no physical part of the plant in a flower essence, only its healing vibration, there is no scent and there are no side effects. Flower essences are safe for all ages of humans and animals too, and are compatible with all other forms of therapy or medicine.
Choosing a flower essence to work with can be as simple as selecting the one that attracts you to its beauty, color, or growth pattern. Flowers speak to our subconscious, drawing us intuitively to the healing we need.
The flower essence collection of Healing Path Apothecary offers guidance as well—you can browse each flower's message, refer to the Flower Essence Guide for suggested essences in specific areas of support, or use the website’s search function for the energetic alignment you’re seeking. I also offer consultations by appointment, including the option of working with my Flower Essence Oracle deck to select an essence based on your own inner wisdom.
Healing Path Apothecary offers 80 unique essences, each crafted from organically grown plants. Harvested at their peak, the flowers are infused outdoors in fresh water, soaking in sunshine and loving intention. This process captures the synergy of earth, water, fire, air, and spirit, creating a harmonious essence to support balance and well-being.
I’m happy to answer any questions about flower essences in general, or any of those offered in Healing Path Apothecary. And if you’d like to create your own, here’s the step by step instructions.

Please Note – Flower essences are very different from essential oils. Essential oils are highly concentrated extracts of a plant’s aromatic, volatile compounds—the substances plants create to protect themselves from predators. These oils do not hold the healing properties of a plant, but only the potent aroma of its condensed defenses. Because of this, using essential oils can be highly toxic to our health, as well as to animals and the environment. To explore this further, you can read my post Be Essential Oil Free.
